About - The Donkey Sanctuary India

The Donkey Sanctuary India started its operation in India in 1998, and got registered as a charity in 2002. DSI works for the welfare of working donkeys and mules in India and with partnership in other countries like Nepal and Srilanka, funded by The Donkey Sanctuary UK.

The Welfare of animals can be achieved only by holistic approaches. The key principle of DSI work is empowering donkey owning communities and to make them self-reliant and take care of their animals in better ways.

Achieving sustainability is imperative thus DSIs key approaches of work include the awareness campaigning, capacity building and health care services. India being a vast country thus initiatives of partnerships with like-minded agency, health care systems regionally and nationally are reached out where DSI is ensuring a robust in equine health care with trainings for early relief from suffering and distress.

The project team comprises of multi-disciplinary people from Veterinarian, Community Development & Education personnel, with support staff of skills of health, farriery and harness.
